GCSE Religious Studies (9 – 1)

Exam Board AQA – A

There are two written exam papers – both taken at the end of the two year study.

Qualifications will be graded 9 to 1 with 9 being the highest grade and 1 the lowest.

We will study this course over two years.

Component 1 – The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices – Christianity and Buddhism.

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes

96 marks (plus 5 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG)

50% of GCSE

Component 2 – Thematic studies: Students must answer questions on four of these topics. They must refer to both Christianity and Buddhism in their answers.

  • Relationship and families
  • Religion and life
  • The existence of God and revelation
  • Religion, peace and conflict
  • Religion, crime and punishment
  • Religion, human rights and social justice

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes

96 marks (plus 5 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG)
