About John Ruskin School
John Ruskin School is a fully comprehensive mixed 11 – 16 community school with Technology School status. We provide education at the heart of the Lake District for the communities of Coniston, Hawkshead, Langdale and Broughton. However, many students from other areas also choose to travel to our school using subsidised transport. It is a thriving community that promotes high levels of academic and personal achievement for its students
John Ruskin School has achieved Investors in People, Arts Mark, Sports Mark and the Healthy Schools Award. We have also been recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust for the high achievements of our students at GCSE level.
John Ruskin School has a strong history of being an active participant in community events and has hosted the Coniston 14 Run, the Guide Dog for the Blind Challenge and is a member of the Coniston and Crake Partnership.
The
South Lakes Federation
The South Lakes Federation is made up of eight secondary
schools, Kendal College and a special school within the South Lakes area.
There is close collaboration between all the schools within the Federation
providing an opportunity for curriculum enrichment; access for students
to vocational courses and support for Gifted and Talented students.
The Rural Academy
John Ruskin School is a member of the Rural Academy of
Cumbria. The close links with the six other schools in the Rural Academy
means students often have collaborative experiences with students across
Cumbria as well as access to a greater variety of resources and learning
opportunities.
